Who We Are:
The Bergstrom Foundation is a trust-based philanthropic organization committed to advancing reproductive justice. We champion organizations that improve the well-being of underserved communities, families and individuals by ensuring equitable access to comprehensive, high-quality sexual and reproductive health care and education, including contraception and abortion services. The Foundation currently carries out this work in the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean (Bolivia, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua and Venezuela), and East and Souteastern Africa (Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania and Uganda).
Vision:
We envision a world where all individuals possess the autonomy, rights, and resources to make informed choices regarding their reproductive lives. We strive for a future where equitable access to comprehensive, high-quality reproductive health education and services, including contraception and abortion, empowers communities to shape their futures and foster more just societies across Latin America and the Caribbean, East Africa, and the United States.

The Bergstrom Foundation (BF) was built on the belief that human
well-being, economic development, environmental protection, and reproductive rights are inextricably linked. The founders, Erik and Edith Bergstrom, believed that if we are to leave a just and thriving planet
to future generations, individuals must have the means to decide
when and whether to have children.

Core Principles
-
Trust: Empowering grantees and partners through flexible, trust-based relationships.
Trust is at the heart of our relationships. We place complete confidence in our partners, relying on them to lead solutions based on their unique expertise and insights. By embracing flexibility and long-term support, we build lasting partnerships rooted in mutual respect and shared purpose.

-
Equity: Prioritizing underserved populations and ensuring inclusive access to services.
Equity drives our unwavering commitment to ensuring everyone, especially marginalized and underserved communities, has fair access to high-quality SRHR opportunities and services. We believe meaningful progress is achieved by helping dismantle the barriers that have long prevented equitable access to reproductive health care.
-
Inclusive Collaboration: Amplifying local voices and integrating community feedback into solutions.
We believe the most significant impact stems from diverse local voices co-creating solutions for change. We amplify community wisdom, fostering partnerships that allow collective action to flourish. Integrating local knowledge ensures that solutions are sustainable and reflect community needs.
-
Courage: Facing challenges, taking necessary risks and leading with integrity.
Courage is the unwavering strength to face uncertainty with boldness and make decisions that transform challenges into opportunities. It inspires the Foundation to take risks when necessary, stand firm in its values, and lead with integrity. Courage is the catalyst that drives innovation and fosters resilience in our pursuit of a better world.
-
Excellence: Striving for continuous progress, elevating reproductive health with unwavering quality and innovation.
The Bergstrom Foundation is committed to delivering the highest quality in all its initiatives to promote accessible, high-quality reproductive health services. Our commitment to excellence means continuous improvement, learning, and innovation to ensure long-term, positive outcomes that benefit individuals, communities and society.
